The Bible-Presbyterian Church of Western Australia (BPCWA) was founded in 1986 by Calvary Bible-Presbyterian Church of Singapore as a missionary outreach to Australia. Raised up by God in an age of great falling away from the faith, BPCWA continues to shine forth as a beacon of light to the surrounding community, standing firmly for the Word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ against the growing forces of unbelief and erroneous teachings of the Bible.

Our Church has an English service in the main sanctuary downstairs and a Mandarin speaking service upstairs in the second sanctuary. Church services are at 10:00am every Sunday morning.

My dear Readers,

Today we continue with the series of articles adapted from articles published more than ten years ago by Life BP Church, setting forth some of the distinctives held by Bible-Presbyterian Church of WA.

4. The Christian Gospel

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

The word “Gospel” is derived from the Old English “God-spell” (in 1526, William Tyndale spelled it “Gospell”) denoting “glad tidings” or “good news”. This “good news” relates to God’s plan of salvation for man through the Person of Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son.

The Apostle Paul succinctly affirms the gospel to the Christians in Corinth in that according to God’s plan, Christ died for our sins. The Bible clearly states that we are by nature and conduct sinners before the most holy God (Romans 3:10, 23), unable to do anything spiritually good to commend ourselves to God. Sin is an offence against God and unless our sins are forgiven, we will be judged and eternally separated from God.

However, God in His great love for us, sent His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to be born on this earth and to die on the cross for the penalty of our sins. He died in our place, paying the penalty for our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21) and remained in the grave until the third day. The burial of Jesus shows that the death was real. The heart of the gospel is this—I, the sinner, deserve to die: but Jesus the Son of God died in my place. He became my substitute. Read more
