Month: January 2017

Dear BPCWAians, Today marks the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year. For the Chinese, families come together during this festival to gather and eat together on the eve of the festival, celebrating what is commonly called the reunion dinner. Even with today’s globalisation, this tradition is still very much observed. Children working in far flung places away from their parents would try to return home during this time. Families gather around the dinner table, and even grown children dutifully bid their elders to “eat rice” before beginning to tuck into the sumptuous spread on the table. Asians have traditionally been known for their filial piety. The Chinese attribute it to Confucian ethics. But for the Christian, how should we

Dear BPCWAians, Our church theme for 2017 is from Philippians 1:27, “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel”. Dear BPCWAians, you may not know this, but every year, we have a student outreach program in Singapore. BPCWA organises and leads this to help Singapore students who wish to come to Australia to study. We call this the Australia Pre-departure Briefings. The aim. These talks are aimed at helping Christians who are coming to Australia to study (full time and exchange programs), to work, or to stay. The purpose is to help them find a Biblical and sound church to attend. This is so that they will continue to grow in Christ and not be waylaid when they are away from their home church. One can backslide, be led into erroneous doctrines, or get into the wrong company of

Dear BPCWAians, On New Year’s Day, we gave out the church’s 2017 activities calendar for you to keep with you through the year. Activities conducted monthly or less regularly are reflected in these calendars, while the more regular ones are reflected on the last page of each Sunday’s bulletin. It is made as a bookmark so you can have it in your Bibles or your bags for easy reference. Planned for your spiritual benefit. Heb 10:25 reminds us, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” While we remain on this earth, Christians and the church are always in a

Dear BPCWAians, Blessed New Year wishes in the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Count down to the new year occurred around the world last night, and celebrations continue today and will probably continue for several more days. What is the world hoping for and looking forward to? I guess to some, it is with a hope for a better year ahead than the past ones. To others, it is to resolve to live better, do better, and achieve more. Well, of course there are those who are happy just to have any reason to party, drink, and make merry. But what should be in the Christian’s thoughts as we enter the New Year? In Exodus 12, in
