Fellowship meals in church (Part 2)

Dear BPCWA worshipper, In last week’s pastoral, we took a step back to look at what fellowship lunches are and are not about. After the lockdown last year, all fellowship meals at church were halted until we could slowly reinstate them, beginning with the supper after Watchnight Service last year. While we emerge from some of the COVID-19 restrictions, we also want to highlight to worshippers that things have changed from what they used to be before COVID. This means that we need to also re-evaluate what and how things are done at church. I hope that having this knowledge of what goes on in the background will help worshippers understand with an open mind if things are not what

Fellowship meals in church

Dear BPCWA worshipper, When COVID-19 restrictions occurred, we have had to stop all fellowship meals in church. It was not practical to do it during the time when COVID-19 restrictions were required. The church has the legal obligation to maintain compliance to distancing and capacity requirements in place, besides the additional cleaning and sanitisation guidelines.  However, I am very glad we can have some meals together in church once again. Why did we need to stop it at that time? We were very careful because it is not worth being shut down due to issues that inadvertently arise though unintentional, issues which may affect our ability to worship in church. Yesterday, we held our first Seniors Fellowship meeting post-COVID with

Resumption of offertory in church

Dear BPCWA worshipper, We certainly thank God for the faithfulness of the worshippers who continued to return to the Lord during the period when we were unable to have in-person collections.  Do not forget that this is not just for Sunday worship, but also for fellowship meetings. With the lifting of many pre-COVID restrictions, we have restarted today the collection of offerings in church this week. At present, we do not separate between tithes and offerings, so both tithes and offerings should be dropped into the offering bag as they are being passed around. To reduce the need for everyone to handle the bag, only offertory stewards will be handling the bags and passing them around so that worshippers can

2021 Family Camp’s Thematic Message

Dear BPCWA worshipper, Today, we continue with the second set of 4 thematic messages from our church camp. 5. Time for growth (2 Pet 3:8-9). In eternity, our attitude to time will change, because we will never run out of time. But now, our time on earth is finite. Time that has passed will never return, but yet we are always wasting it. Knowing that this world is reserved for destruction must change our perspective of time because we are bound by time. God is not bound by time, so we must see things from His perspective of eternity. Christ’s 1st coming was to save, but at His 2nd coming, it is to judge the world, and the day of

2021 Family Camp’s Thematic Message

Dear BPCWA worshipper, Having recapped the morning devotion sermons which I preached during the camp, we will spend the next two pastorals summarising the 8 camp messages delivered by Rev Quek Suan Yew. These were based on our church’s theme for this year “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (2 Pet 3:18) 1. Grow or die (2 Pet 3:17-18). We are surrounded by many things that grow. Spiritually, that must be the case for all of us too. When Peter commands us to grow in grace, it is so that we will grow in our holy witness for Christ. Conversely, if
