Dear BPCWA worshipper, Last week, we saw some pros and cons of using electronic Bibles. I’m sure that the techies could easily add much more to that list of pros. Yes, we love that technology, and who can live without that technology in today’s world? But carry a Bible to church? That’s just for the older folks, I’ve got my tech gadget that I can use. Is this what church will become in the next generation? Why should I use a hard copy paper Bible in church and during my quiet time and personal devotions? Is it just about the pros of using an electronic Bible outweighing the cons? Read through last week’s pastoral and refresh yourself on the disadvantages
Read moreDear BPCWA worshipper, Technology is almost an indispensable part of our life today. When once phones only sat in our homes, today handphones sit in our pockets. The convenience is undeniable – being contactable on the go, being able to search for the nearest petrol stations when your car is low on gas, paying for purchases through your handphones . . . the list goes on. The handphone has become the one device that one not only carries about when they’re out, it often is the device that is carried about with you even when you’re in the house too! With the convenience that it offers, it is no surprise that most Christians have a Bible application installed on their
Read moreDear BPCWA worshipper, We recently concluded our Holiday Bible Program from the 4-6 January. The theme of the program was “Growing Up as Godly Seed”, taken from 1 John 3:9 “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” I chose this theme to tie in with the Family Seminar conducted last October, which was along the same lines. While the Family Seminar focussed on teaching the parents, it was also important for the children growing up in our church to also know and understand their role and respond correctly in this as well. This being a year with COVID restrictions and hence a
Read moreDear BPCWA worshipper, We are already into our second Lord’s Day in 2021. Around the world, the New Year’s Eve celebrations were vastly different in 2020 as compared to previous years. What had seemed to be “traditions” in various states and different countries were changed due to the COVID pandemic. Little did we know on 31 Dec 2019 that a year later, the world would be so different. While 31 December marked the last of the 365 days in 2020, March marked the beginning of a “new normal” for all of us – and since then, things haven’t quite fully returned to the “normal” that we used to know. In view of that, I want to recap our Watchnight Service
Read moreDear BPCWA worshipper, Last week, we closed off the year with a pastoral on our 2020 church theme. I hope that having spent time studying that verse, none of us will be shipwrecked in our spiritual life. We can be at church, go through all the appearances, but simply for the purpose of “keeping up with appearances”. What are we really underneath that façade? Are we really, truly, within the very core of ourselves, what we want people to think about us externally? Do we keep numbing our consciences with repeated offences? Shipwreck is real. God is serious about it. We may continue to allow even one repeated sin into our lives with no desire to deal with it, thinking
